Last
I heard, Dan was taken to a re-education camp with Joe the Plumber and
Joe Lieberman. They are probably about done tweaking Dan's set screw by
now, so he should be back soon.

Right,
me either. Dan, I feel honored with my new title and everything, but
basically I can't do anything but post like everyone else. What gives? |

Same here, my account appears to be just a normal user account today.

Since none of the illuminati can do anything today, does this mean that Dan's going to take over & fly solo?

OK, fixed the Global Mod powers/buttons/menu issues. Have expanded powers a bit more than they were before.

Speaking of expanded powers, I am proud to announce that my experiments
in phonogenetic engineering have been a resounding success! It is now
possible for a phono collector to become impregnated by an Edison
phonograph seed and actually give birth to the Edison phonograph of
one's choice!
I plan to be quite very phonographically fertile in the years to come!
This is quite revolutionary....it is no longer necessary to buy
phonographs as one can now give birth to them!

Hmm....
I once saw a Victrola at the antiques mall that was totally screwed and it didn't give birth to anything!

Sure.....who
couldn't imagine becoming pregnant with a phonograph. Sounds completely
plausible. It's the birthing process I am having a problem with!

Dan,
I
find it very impressive how often you overstate your abilities. As
someone whose job title is “Senior Programmer”, I’m curious: what part
of clicking through a web based form is ‘coding’?
Here is the
step-by-step process, with screen captures for anyone not familiar with
how ProBoards is set up and works, from the Admin side.
First,
you click the Admin button in the navigation bar at the top. Admin
appears between [Calendar] and [Profile], if the calendar is enabled.
On this board, since the calendar is not enabled, it would be between
[Members] and [Profile]:
This takes you to the Administration Area, which looks like so:
(Note
that depending on the theme that you are using, the colors will look
different, but the content is all that matters for the purposes of my
explanation.)
So to do what Dan described, under Member Groups, you would click Modify Group. That will take you to a screen which looks like this:
Here you would select the group from the drop-down menu, and click Continue, which takes you to the next screen:
Here you can change the name of the group, and other rather self-explanatory settings. If Dan mistakenly set the Global Moderators
group to not be staff, here is where you would fix it. Otherwise, you’d
proceed to the next screen, so either way, you’d click Continue, which takes us to the third and final screen:
Finally, on this screen you allow or deny abilities for the group, and when you’re done, you would click Modify Group.
Remarkably
simple, actually, and this sort of thing is one of the reasons why
ProBoards is as popular as it is (apart from the fact that it’s free).
There is no coding involved, even making your own theme colors can be
as simple as picking them from a color palette (or if you know #RRGGBB
hex notation, you can enter it or copy/paste it from an image editor
such as Photoshop).
The hexadecimal notation
is quite simple. Instead of being base 10, like the numbers we use in
everyday life, it is base 16, so instead of having 0-9, you have 0-F,
A-F being numbers greater than 9. It’s also useful to know because it
can be used in your posts on the board, with the [color] tag. Instead of doing [color=Red],
which would give you a value of #FF0000, you can do different shades of
a color, which lets you use any color that you wish. There are free tools online that allow you to pick a color in much the same way that Photoshop does.
So the next time you use color, check out the color picker, and you won’t be limited to the fourteen colors in the ProBoards drop-down.
I’ll bet you didn’t realize that everyone posting on this forum is a coder, on the Dan Gilmore scale.
